The structure and form of the diploma

The diploma consists of five separate modules. Each of these is complete in it and tested in a paper of two hours duration. The modules are:

1.  Legal obligations and Regulations/ TAKEN & PASSED

AIMS:         To promote an understanding of the legal obligations of the driver and enable the instructor to carry out his professional duties within the law. To develop an understanding of the Driving Vehicle Agency Driving Test administration and

                   regulations.

 2. Management, Practices and Procedures/ TAKEN & PASSED

 AIMS:       To provide an understanding of the financial, administrative and professional  skills involved in the operation of a driving school.

3.  Vehicle Maintenance and Mechanical Principles/  TAKEN & PASSED

 AIMS:       To develop an awareness of the importance of maintaining motor vehicles in a roadworthy and clean condition and provide a sound basic knowledge of their working principles. To provide an understanding of the instructor's responsibilities concerning maintenance and servicing requirements.

4. Driving Theory, Skills and Procedures/  TAKEN & PASSED

AIMS:        To develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of driving and the physical and psychological requirements involved. To develop a general understanding of the attitude, skills and procedures involved in reduced risk driving.

5. Teaching : Practises and Procedures/ TAKEN & PASSED

AIMS:        To develop a basic understanding of the principles of learning as they relate to driving instruction and to assist the instructor to design and develop appropriate courses.  To develop valid methods of assessing driving competence and provide a thorough understanding of the objectives, syllabus and methods of assessment used by Driving Vehicle Agency driving Examiners. 

Possession of the Diploma in Driving Instruction will enable the public to identify those instructors who have proved their professional competence and experience.
