Fleet Qualifications

In October 2006 I attended, by special request, a five day induction course with a well known and respected fleet training company in England.

The five day course comprised of 6 modules.

Module 1 Introduction to the company and company's administration practises.

Module 2 Driving skills and instructional techniques.

Module 3 Professionalism.

Module 4 Presentation training.

Module5 Theory and driving tests.

Module6 Continued monitoring.

All of the above ensure that I can deliver a more effective and productive driving lesson, as stated below:

Fault recognition and rectification

Correct identification of all faults committed

Structured debriefing

Correct remedial action to rectify faults

Prioritising fault rectification

Senior qualified observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
What is an advanced motorist?

Ø Being in total control of your vehicle, all of the time.

Ø Effective observation and timing at junctions and roundabouts ensuring that you can negotiate the traffic with minimal disruption.

Ø Progressive systematic safe driving where conditions allow.

Ø Effective safe overtaking.

Ø Being aware and acting intelligently on other road users’ behaviour.

Holder of a Large Goods Vehicle Licence (Class 1)

This enables me to pass on some sort of appreciation to my clients of the difficulties the
modern day articulated lorry drivers have to face in their day to day occupation.

For example, an articulated lorry driver is entering the acceleration lane on the uphill section of the M2 on his way to Belfast International Airport. Car motorists in lane 1 accelerate passed the lorry forcing the lorry driver to slow; this in turns forces him to change down gears, not the normal 5/6 speed you would find in your average car but 16 gears. This may lead to dropping down to 8th gear which can mean several miles of hard acceleration to work his way back up to top gear. However, had the car motorist checked mirrors and moved to lane 2 when it was safe, this would not have had to impede the progress of the articulated lorry driver.

Member of RoSPA advanced motorists (Gold Award).

The gold grade is recognised as the highest driving award available to the public. It will be only awarded to the driver who displays a complete understanding and appropriate application of the principles in road-craft.
With all this in place the gold standard driver will be able to make unobtrusive, planed and polished progress consistent with safety and the law.

The candidate will display confidence and ability throughout the whole test which leads the examiner to consider that the candidate has the potential to do well on a Police Advanced Course. The candidate's performance must be consistent throughout the whole of the test and so any lapses may result in a lower grade. Awards of this grade must therefore be reserved for the very best of drivers.

ROADWISE

Member of the Road Wise Young Driver Initiative programme. I am an instructor who has been specially prepared and selected to work with I.A.M. Fleet to deliver their worthy initiative throughout Northern Ireland.

City and Guilds Further and Adult Education Teachers Certificate 730. Certificate in basic skills support working with students that suffer with dyslexia . Experience with working with deaf and hearing impaired students.

DIA Diamond Accredited Taxi-driver Trainer ( DATT )

This enables me to deliver a structured approach to training qualified drivers, which covers all aspects of the taxi training programme. It is based on National Occupational Standards and covers both the driving and wheelchair requirements of the diamond and Driving Standards Agency- Driving Vehicle Agency (DSA-DVA) taxi test.

a²om BTEC Accredited Instructor.

The a²om BTEC in Driving Science is the world’s first academic qualification in novice driver training. Equivalent to a GCSE Level, it is your chance to be a pioneer in revolutionising the way driving is taught and learnt. The a²om BTEC in Driving Science is completed over a normal course of driving lessons. It will result in a more fully informed driver with a full appreciation of all the factors that influence safety.

TRAINER for Driver Speed Awareness Course.

Specially selected trainer with the backround knowledge to deliver this course. Which meant Iwas requested to attend a two day training course.

The Northern Ireland National SpeedAwareness Course is based on the same principles as the National Driver Improvment Scheme but in this case targeting people who drive above the posted speed limits.

As means of dealing with an offence the course is no soft option for the offence . Attendance on the half day course attracts a fee payable by the offender as well as the time and effort involved

Instructor for the National Driver Improvement Scheme, this course is an alternative to prosecution for careless driving offences.

The Driver Improvement Scheme finds its legal authority in the discretion entrusted to the police, who decide whether to institute proceedings for offences.

The course is an alternative to prosecution only for careless driving offences where a driver’s mistake, rather than intent or dangerousness, has led to a collision. It is designed to correct poor driving behaviour arising from errors of judgement without the need to bring the case to court. Evidence of recklessness or deliberate action will result in a prosecution.

Advanced Diamond Special Test Certificate

To day it is internationally acclaimed as the benchmark of driving execellence, Both the Advanced and special test are accredited by the international Association for Driver Excellence (IVV) and the Driving Standards Agency ( DSA ) Both tests meet the stringent requirements for the register of fleet trainers and test of driving ability ( part two )
