Why did Colin Hagan decide to choose a VW GOLF?
Quite simply, German precision engineering and quality. I thought long and hard about a vehicle which my clients would feel at ease with and could learn to drive easily. This car features an extremely high level of specification, both inside and out, from the adjustable steering column to suit both tall and small drivers.
Height adjustable front sport comfort seats with lumber support.
The Golf also includes air conditioning helping to keep both learner and instructor cool on a hot day when learning manoeuvres. This also helps to keep the windows from misting up and therefore improves your all important visibility.
Inside luxuries include rain sensor wipers and automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror, dusk sensor which activates the vehicle headlights when natural light levels diminish For example at night, driving through tunnels and underground car parks.
Last but not least, the Golf is fitted with the all important HE-MAN DUAL CONTROLS. And should we be unfortunate to have a collision, Volkswagen have build a wide range of safety systems into their vehicles; both passive and active safety systems.
Passive safety system:
- Provide protection when the collision has already occurred.
- Both driver and passengers can rely on a comprehensive six airbag system comprising of driver and front passenger airbags; and a curtain airbag system with front seat side impact airbags.
Active safety system
Helps prevent collisions occurring due to driver error.
Anti-lock Braking System, ABS
So what does ABS do to assist the driver?
- Prevents the wheels from locking under heavy braking
- Keeps the car straight on mixed surface
- Maintains steering control in a brake and avoid manoeuvre.
Electronic Stabilisation Programme, ESP.
So what does ESP do to assist the driver?
- The ESP system recognises critical driving situations and reacts in milliseconds by targeting brake and management systems, controlling the speed of individual wheels and helping to bring the vehicle under control. As a result the vehicle achieves maximum directional stability.
All of the above are married to a TDI, Turbo Direct Injection Engine.
- A diesel engine makes this vehicle more difficult, in comparison to a petrol engine, to stall which makes the whole process of learning to drive that much easier.
